Joseph Daniel Shupp, 47, passed away from lung cancer on Saturday, June 19, 2021 in Sandpoint, Idaho. Memorial services will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, July 10, 2021 at the North Summit Church with Pastor Steve Brown officiating.
Joe was born on December 15, 1973 in Whittier, CA to Daniel and Marsha Shupp. He grew up and attended schools in the Bay Area, graduating from Mountain View High School in 1992. He went on and earned his business degree from Santa Clara University in 1997.
Joe married Becky Quezada on September 13, 1997 in Los Altos. They lived in Hollister where Joe worked in San Jose as an advertising sales executive for Pac Bell/ SBC and later for Quest Dex in Spokane, WA. He moved back to CA where he began his service to The Lord and served as an Associate Pastor at Calvary Chapel Santa Cruz. His most rewarding job was becoming Senior Pastor at Calvary Chapel Capitola.
In 2017 Joe and Becky moved to Boise, where he received his Stage 4 lung cancer diagnosis. They decided to move to Sandpoint to be closer to Joe’s parents.
Joe loved and served the Lord! He had an amazing grasp of scripture and could relate it to others in 3D. He also had a gift of forming lasting connections with kids-even though they didn’t have their own. He touched lives through his discipleship and poured into people, helping them grow, and allowed a platform to use their spiritual gifts. He was a huge sports fan of the Dodgers, Lakers, Rams, Gonzaga, and Boise State. He was a planner, loved to laugh and play games and had quick wit and a great sense of humor.
He is survived by his wife Becky Shupp of Sandpoint; parents Dan and Marsha Shupp of Sandpoint; brothers William Shupp of Palmdale and Andrew (Emily) Shupp of Oregon City; two nieces Mackenzie and Samantha; aunt Mildred Keller; in-laws Magda and Raul Quezada of Mountain View, CA; sister in law Jhossy (Paul) Varnauskas of Campbell, CA and niece Sophia and nephew Andrew.
He was preceded in death by his sister in law Michelle Shupp, grandparents Carl and Beatrice Shupp and Forrest and Virginia Lloyd.
Memorial donations may be made to the National Cancer Institute.
