Francis Matthew “Frank” Weaver, 75, resident of Sitka, Alaska, passed away on Friday, July 17, 2015 at his summer home in Sandpoint, Idaho.
Frank was born on May 1, 1940 in Brooklyn, New York to Frank and Genevieve Weaver. He grew up in Sarasota, Florida where he learned to race sailboats – which instilled a life-long love of the ocean where his ashes will be scattered at a later date.
Frank proudly served his country as a commissioned officer in the US Air Force and thereafter as a Police Officer for 27 years in Florida, Idaho, and Alaska – where he retired from the Anchorage Police Department. He also worked as a mechanic and as a fine craftsman could fix and build most anything.
His gift of storytelling and vast knowledge of history enriched many lives and as an avid reader, he could often be found with a book in his hands. Other hobbies included photography, sketching and building/flying RC model airplanes – as well as hunting and other outdoor activities.
As a member of St. Gregory’s Catholic Church, he especially enjoyed spending time with the men’s fellowship group where he often helped cook traditional Polish/German meals.
Frank is survived by his wife of 44 years, Diane Weaver; his children (and spouses) Matthew (Bibi), Tom, Katherine, Tammy, Rebecca (Lenny), Bonny, Sharon (Tony), Daniel (Rachel), and Kristopher; as well as 23 grandchildren and 2 great grandchildren.
