Marjorie Ann “Betty” Kinne, 90, passed away on Saturday, August 24, 2019 in Sandpoint, Idaho. A Memorial Service will be held at 6:30 pm on Thursday, August 29, 2019 at the Kootenai Community Church with Pastor Jim Osman officiating. The family invites all who knew Betty to come and celebrate her life. Betty will be buried next to her husband, David Kinne, at the Pack River Cemetery.

Betty was born on August 1, 1929 in Renton, WA to James and Gladys Nielsen. She graduated high school in Issaquah, WA. She lettered in women’s basketball, volleyball and cheerleading.

Betty married David Kinne on January 24, 1948 in Las Vegas. They lived all over the United States as well as in Japan. Betty and Dave raised five children while serving in the US Air Force. They retired in 1966 and settled on their farm near Sunnyside in Sandpoint.

Betty was active in her church and local politics. She was a member of the Bonner County Republican Women, sat on the advisory board to build the new county jail and received accommodation for her work. She was a founding board member for the Animal Shelter, was an early member on the Bonner County Emergency Communication Board; served on the Bonner County Fair Board, and received an award as “Outstanding Chairman” for the Farm Bureau Governmental Affairs Committee. In addition, she received recognition from Bonner County for her public service, and was awarded “Volunteer of the Year” for the 86th Bonner County Fair. In the 70’ and 80’s she was a member of the Oden Busy Bee’s and Sweet Adeline’s.

In her free time Betty enjoyed doing crafts, handwork, and gardening. She is survived by her five children David (Karen) Kinne of Post Falls, Preston (Gretchen) Kinne of Coeur d’Alene; Lezlie Kinne of Pony, MT, Betty Ann (Elton) Anderson of Sandpoint, and John (Andrea) Kinne of Sandpoint; 19 grandchildren; and over 20 great grandchildren; one brother Richard Nielsen of El Centro, CA; and one sister Gloria Farnam of Issaquah, WA.

She was preceded in death by her parents, husband David, and three brothers James, Robert, and Harvey Nielsen.
