Adrianne Ellen Yoder, 76, passed away on Wednesday, March 30, 2022 in Sandpoint, Idaho surrounded by her daughters. A memorial service will be held later this summer at Sandpoint Church of the Nazarene.
Adrianne was born on February 11, 1946 in Cleveland, Ohio to Russell and Ellen Roth. She grew up attending schools in Cleveland, participating in marching band with her clarinet and advancing her artistic talents in drawing and painting. After high school, she attended Kent State University and received her degree in Art Education.
After graduating college in 1969, Adrianne married Glen Shull in Northfield, Ohio. Adrianne taught art in junior high schools in Bedford, Ohio before Glen and she moved to Altadena, CA. While there, she continued teaching secondary art education, but eventually, Glen and her went their separate ways.
Adrianne met Kenneth Yoder while attending his “math anxiety” course at UCLA in 1976. He was her handsome professor and they quickly enjoyed each other’s adventurous and outdoorsy lifestyles. They also had a special connection through art, often communicating through cartoon drawings as they courted. On June 19, 1977 they were married under the pepper tree at Pasadena First Church of the Nazarene in Pasadena, CA. Adrianne later gave birth to their daughter, Jodie Rebecca in June 1978.
Looking for a quieter place to raise a family, Ken took a teaching job at Northwest Nazarene College (NNC) and the family moved to Nampa, ID in 1980. For the next few years, Adrianne worked in the media department of NNC and also enjoyed teaching photography there. During this time, Adrianne and Ken welcomed two more daughters: Kendall Anne in March 1982 and Hayley Marie in December 1983. Adrianne also finished a Masters of Education degree and a secondary math teaching certificate at NNC in 1984. For the next ten years, Adrianne taught Algebra and helped run the Math Relays team at West Junior High School in Nampa, Idaho. She later earned a Masters Degree in Library Science from the University of Arizona and worked as a school librarian in the Canyon County and Ada County school districts. One of her favorite jobs, which she retired from, was being a Medical Research Librarian at Mercy Medical Center in Nampa, Idaho.
Adrianne was an amazing artist and photographer. She enjoyed camping and hiking, particularly in the Anza-Borrego Desert during the spring bloom. She took pleasure in doing Caravan projects with her daughters through the Nazarene church and attending their sports and band concerts. But her favorite way to spend time with her family was through taking trips all over the country and world, always with detailed pre-trip research and planning. She also loved studying genealogy and collecting antiques.
In 2016, Ken and Adrianne moved to Sandpoint, ID to be closer to their daughter Kendall’s family. They enjoyed these years together and helping with Kendall’s three sons.
Adrianne is survived by her three daughters: Jodie (Tim) Burling of Lancaster, PA, Kendall (Kyle) Yake of Sandpoint, ID, and Hayley (Andrew) Tarrant of Pozna?, Poland; two step-sons: Jim (Constance) Yoder of Los Angeles, CA, and Bob Yoder of Vernal, UT; 8 grandchildren, 5 step-grandchildren; one brother: Russell (Diane) Roth of Palm Coast, FL; two half-sisters: Colleen Roth of Akron, OH and Christina Roth of Charlotte, NC; and step-mother Connie Roth of Ravenna, OH. She was preceded in death by her parents, her half-brother Robert Perritt, her step-daughter Lee Shasky, and by her husband, Ken Yoder.
Memorial donations may be made to the Sandpoint Church of the Nazarene for their building expansion fund. 477954 Hwy 95, Ponderay, ID 83852.
